東日本大震災被災地の中学生をメルボルンに招待するプロジェクト

学校の生徒さんたちは、知らない人の私にでも、とても積極的に関わってくれたり、とても友好的でした。　移民の人たちが多くいるので慣れているところは、日本との文化の違いだなと思いました。

　　　 　　

また、日本は集団を大切にしますが、オーストラリアでは個性を大切にして、それぞれ自分で考えて行動しているのを見て、とてもすごいなと思いました。日本とオーストラリアの文化の違いに、たくさん驚きましたが、「人」は日本と同じで、とても親切だと感じました。とても暖かくて、過ごしやすい所だと思いました。

　 　　

今回の体験から、私は、外国の人と交流する時など、いつも以上に緊張して口数が少なくなったり、少し距離を置いたりしてしまいますが、これからは私がされたように友好的に接したいと思いました。それから、いつも人の意見に従っていましたが、自分の考えで行動できるようになりたいと思いました。

　 　

Most classmates were kind and friendly. They helped me in many things even getting involved in my school work. The first and biggest difference between Japan and Australia is that Australia is a country of immigrants; various nationalities are living peacefully. Perhaps, that is why most Australians know how to treat people who come from overseas.

The next big difference is that Australian people respect individuality by recognizing that people are all different, whereas Japanese people respect and follow the way of thinking or decision made by the majority. It is amazing to know that people are taking action by their own judgement with their own individual responsibility and not by that of group of people.

This experience of homestay and attending an Australian school taught me many lessons. I was reluctant to speak willingly to Australians and kept myself at a distance from them. It was simply because I could not talk naturally and I became so nervous and stressed. I am going to try to be friendly and help the overseas people in the way that I was treated in Australia. I also realise that it is important to act in a responsible manner according to my own thoughts and judgement and not just follow the majority.
